Challenging Libra Issues

On the surface, Libra energy is well-balanced, harmonious, wanting to please, and quite non-confrontational. But there's much more to the story. It isn't just the Sun in Libra folks we're referring to here, but wherever we find an astrological focus on Libra (including house rulerships). When any of the personal planets (Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus, or Mars) is in Libra, these influences are usually quite discernable.

While it's true that people with a strong Libra influence generally tend to be good counselors or mediators, work harmoniously with others, and want to avoid conflict—other issues may arise. The need to minimize confrontation can at times result in a compromise of ideals in an attempt to avoid disagreement or conflict. The tendency is to not get involved in any discussions or arguments that can leave the Libra feeling most uncomfortable.

The Libra-influenced individual prefers to maintain peace and harmony at all costs. This may show up in the early home environment where every effort is made to defuse or prevent potentially volatile family interactions. Libra finds this conflict so disturbing and disconcerting that strong efforts are made to minimize the frequency and volume of these situations. One may try vigilantly to act as a buffer or as a referee to keep potential combatants separated from one another or to do damage control after such conflict has occurred. There may be strong feelings of responsibility focused on maintaining the peace.

Outside the family, Libra wants to please and be appreciated and is careful to consistently put ones best foot forward, so as to make the best possible impressions. This includes physical appearance as well as behavior. If you are cruel and want to make a Libra feel uncomfortable, just ask if they know about that little stain on the back of their jacket. The Libra energy desperately wants to fit in and often not to call attention to themselves, particularly in any negative way.

In friendships and relationships, a Libra-influenced individual is acutely aware of fairness and equality and will do his best to see that this equality is maintained. Libras are so obsessed with equality that would be unusual for them not to repay a debt or return a favor. On the contrary, one will usually be sure to give back more than they have received. Ironically, this behavior creates an imbalance.

Indecisiveness can also be an issue with Libra. One may be so caught up in maintaining balance that it becomes exceedingly difficult to make a final decision and make the choice between A and B. After all, each has its advantage and if we weight the potential benefits of each...you can see how this can be a challenge.

Overall, I really like the Libra energy. It's hard not to enjoy being around people with it. As astrologers, though, we need to be sure that our Libra-inclined clients don't allow these tendencies to become detrimental to their own well-being.
