An Important Part of
Client Interaction

"Set priorities for your goals.  A major part of successful living lies in the ability to put first things first.  Indeed, the reason most major goals are not achieved is that we spend our time doing second things first."

In the companion piece to this article, How Astrology Can Help You  Turn Possibilities into a Plan the following pyramid diagram was presented:

Turning Possibilities into a Plan

As astrologers, there is only so much that we can do without input from the client.  Astrology helps us to assess our client's potential strengths and challenges, but we must listen carefully and process what the client is saying before we can move further.  An integral part of the interaction with our client involves ascertaining where their priorities lie.

Sometimes a client may ask, "What is my life purpose?"  This is something that we cannot reasonably determine in a vacuum without input from the client.  Sure, we can anticipate the suggested potential and possibilities in general terms, but until we can establish their individual priorities or passions, we cannot definitively answer this question.

We, as astrologers, must always be alert to the client's reactions and responses as we present information and identify possibilities and potential.   We must construct realistic scenarios that not only make sense in the context of the chart, but fit in with the client's reality as well.

Certainly, it makes sense to begin with the importance of the Sun-Moon blend.  This combination of sign placements of the two most significant components in the chart go a long way to determine what the person needs in his life in order to feel fulfilled, specifically how life energy is used to express or define the ego (Sun sign) and the emotional needs (Moon sign).  How these needs are nurtured, developed, and utilized should be consistent with the client's priorities and congruent with their life purpose.

All the other details of the chart serve to further modify these core impressions, creating a unique combination of needs, expectations, motivations, passions, etc.

In the pyramid diagram above, we must be aware of the direction and strength of the client's priorities.  This "priorities" step always requires input from the client.  After the priorities have been established, then we can help the client to see the probabilities and develop a meaningful plan to reach their goals.
