"I'm not sure if astrology is for me.
I think I'd rather not know if
something bad is coming."

"Forewarned, forearmed."

                                                 —French Proverb

Modern astrology no longer looks at future events as predestined or pre-ordained certainties.  Rather, astrologers now recognize the impact of the individual's free will and personal choice on the eventual outcome.

Each astrological measurement brings with it associated suggestions that fall within the range of expectations.  The actual outcomes vary from the least to the most positive.  It is comparable to two sides of the same coin.  But rather than an either/or situation, no measurement in itself guarantees specific results and most often falls into the middle ground of the extremes of expectation.

The beauty of astrology is that it uses the cyclic nature of the universe to anticipate the timing of upcoming influences so that we're not totally blindsided, but rather have an opportunity to prepare or strategize how a given influence can most positively be utilized in our lives and in our current situations.

Some people say that they don't want to know if something bad is coming.  While this attitude initially may seem reasonable, it is not always the best choice.  Consider a person who never goes to a doctor with the attitude, "I don't care if I just drop dead."  The reality is that people don't always just drop dead.  Hospitals, extended care facilities, and nursing homes have patients whose quality of life has suffered tremendously for lack of basic preventive care.  In too many of these cases, routine physical exams or lab work could have presented an early-warning signal of an easily corrected problem.

In some ways, astrology is similar to weather forecasting.  If the local meteorologist says that there is an 80% chance of thunderstorms today, it's probably wise to dress accordingly, and maybe take along an umbrella.  It's also probably not the best day to schedule a picnic.

A common sense approach to astrology can give us an advantage and encourages a measure of preparedness in our lives.  A conscientious astrologer can provide guidance not only regarding potential cautions of anticipated bumps in the road or detours that may be necessary, but also can increase the awareness of windows of opportunity that otherwise may not be taken full advantage of.
