| Reinforcing
Measurements and Reasonable Scenarios |
As
I mentioned in my recent Midpoints book, as we analyze a
horoscope:
"...we
continue to figuratively build upon the basic
skeleton of the horoscope as we add successive layers of symbolic
nerves, muscles, and connective tissue. Gradually an impression of the
complete individual begins to emerge rather than just a grocery list of
unconnected bits and pieces. And while each measurement has its own
merits, a much more useful and specific interpretation is possible when
we are able to integrate these seemingly disparate components. Without
this integration, the numerous fragments of individual
measurements can lead us toward confusion rather than
enlightenment."
While
each individual measurement has a specific range of possibilities and
expectations associated with it, only when we assess multiple measurements
in tandem are we able to form a reasonable scenario
of an overall interpretation.
As
we proceed through our analysis, we take note of the individual
interpretations and construct a virtual scorecard that identifies similar,
overlapping, or reinforcing themes. These repetitive themes merit
our attention as they increasingly emphasize probable influences.
The
more consistent and congruous our observations are, the more likely they
are to represent influential factors in the client's life.
Coupled
with the network of related measurements, we can also gain tremendous
insight and increase the detail of our expectations by listening carefully
to the client's responses to our suggestions and assessments. Based
on the specific response, we are often drawn to look back at the chart as
we seek out specific corroborating data that will confirm, validate, or
add strength to our impressions.
As
we evaluate our cumulative assessment, we continue to formulate an
increasingly reasonable scenario that both summarizes
multiple measurements and also fits into the real life circumstances and
life direction of the client.
Often,
in my weekly class of advanced astrology students, I encourage the
students to formulate a reasonable scenario that fits in
with the observed measurements from the chart. it's as if we're
outlining a fictional biography of the person. This exercise allows
us to consolidate our analysis while keeping in mind the polarities of
expression of each measurement. Each successive measurement modifies
and allows us to fine-tune our expectations.
Each
measurement is limited in its potential scope of influencebut
when we creatively combine cumulative measurements into a reasonable
scenario, it becomes much easier to meld diverse factors together
and see the bigger picture.
