How do you use the computer for a new client consultation?

Let me preface this question by saying that it is a work in progress in that I’m continually “tweaking” to make the printout more efficient.  That being said, I’ll go through the procedure step-by-step.  The information in the “[  ]” brackets indicates the name of the Win*Star Plus** form for that chart.  Other quality astrology software should have comparable forms.

Initially I print out a basic natal chart for the client to take home that includes just the planets, the (Mean) North Node, the Ascendant, and the Midheaven.  For this form I use a high quality cotton bond paper and use the “Normal” setting on my HP Deskjet Printer.  This is what the client will take home with them.   I use only Ptolemaic aspects for this form to keep it relatively simple and have the computer draw in the aspects.  This is the only form that I print in color. [Novice]

Note: For all the other printouts I use the draft mode on a Samsung ML-1710 Laser printer because the printing is so much faster and is more economical.  I use less expensive grade paper since I’m the only one that sees them.

I then print out the natal chart for my own use.  This has the aspect grid, including the Ptolemaic aspects plus Semisquares, Sesquiquadrates, Inconjuncts (Quincunxes), Quintiles, and Quindeciles. The form I use [Tyl wheel] has lots of blank space for notes and it doesn’t have a bunch of junk that I don’t really need.  It also shows aspect orbs within the aspect grid.  You can tell at a glance how close the orb is and whether it is applying or separating.  I prefer to draw in my own aspects rather than having the computer do it.  I find that the aspects register a greater impact as I draw them in myself.

The 90-degree midpoint search list is next.  [Midpoint 90 Tyl]  I like this form because it excludes the Eq or Vtx that I don’t use anyway. I also print a 90-degree midpoint tree using a two degree orb [Midpoint Tree 90 Degree on the Data View button list].  By utilizing both forms you can take advantage of the best of both.

bullet

I then print out a three-ringed chart with the client’s natal chart in the center, the Solar Arc’s for the consultation appointment time (CAT) in the middle ring, and the transits for the CAT in the outer ring.  I just write in the Secondary Progressed Moon position for the CAT on this chart rather than adding a fourth ring and complicating the printout.  [Tri-Small wheel]

Next, I print out the Transit CAT, as I routinely use this “consultation chart” to hone in on areas of particular focus during the consultation. [Tyl Wheel]

Then, using the search module, I print out major Transits and Solar Arcs from birth until a time about 5 years beyond the current date. By extending the report this far into the future, you're sure to catch major measurements that are beyond my usual year to year and a half into the future (such as Saturn Returns or major outer planet transits). I’ve pared this down to 3 or less pages.

bullet

Next, I print out a more detailed list of Transits and Solar Arcs that includes at least the 6 months prior to the consultation for a total of a 3-year time span.  This report also is 2-3 pages.

bullet

Finally, I do a printout of Noel Tyl’s Solar Arc Midpoint** report (also a Matrix software package) for the same 3-year period as described in the previous paragraph.  The birth information is automatically transferred from Win*Star so data re-entry is unnecessary.

I put all the information in a manila file folder, label it with the client’s name and put it in a file drawer until I’m ready to do the prep.

These printouts allow thorough analysis of the natal chart, significant past astrological measurements which can be correlated to actual events in the client’s life, and detailed measurements for evaluating the recent past and next year and a half in more detail in a very concise grouping.

The entire process takes only about 5 minutes once you have your computer configured and get used to the routine.

** Win*Star Plus and Noel Tyl's Solar Arc Midpoint reports are products of Matrix Software
