I've
been meaning to write this article for a long time...How ironic is that?
It's all too easy for us to
procrastinate. We can all readily find excuses to avoid doing
something we don't want to do. But there's one thing
about procrastination that's really hard to figure out. If there's
something we really, really want, something we're really passionate
about, why on earth would we want to delay it?
When we find ourselves
procrastinating about something that we think we really want, it's
important to ask ourselves these questions:
 |
"Is this something
I really want?"
|
 |
"Why am I delaying
this?"
|
 |
"Am I waiting for
the perfect time to do this" (There never is a perfect
time)
|
 |
"At some point in
the future, will I regret it if I don't do this?"
|
 |
"How will I feel
when this is accomplished?"
|
Stay focused.
Distractions can delay or derail our progress. It's easy to
rationalize, "Hey, I've got a lot of time before that needs to
be done. I think I'll organize my sock drawer
today." When you find yourself tempted to do something
menial and totally unrelated to your goal, go back and ask yourself the
above questions.
So procrastination is
really a part of a bigger concept, prioritization. If
it really is a goal, something you want passionately, it should be
very high on your personal priority list.
Give yourself permission to
succeed. Choose to do something today to bring yourself
closer to your goals and dreams.
